Portrait Tips – How to prepare for your photography session.

General Tips:
* Neutral, non-patterned clothing works best for portraits.Try to avoid large, bold patterns or brand wording as these draw attention away from the face.
* Solid colours photograph well
* Keep jewellery and accessories simple or bring a few different options with you.
* “Less is more” is a good adage to follow when designing your outfit.
* Think about studio backgrounds when choosing clothing colours. Black/white can work well depending upon the portrait set-up.
* If you are having a haircut leave at least week for it to settle before having your portrait taken.

Tips for Groups:

* When two or more people are in a portrait together the faces are what is most important so try to keep clothing simple.
* Try to dress everyone in the same style of clothing but not necessarily in the same colour.
* Again try to avoid busy fabrics that will steal the show.
* Choose either casual or formal for your photograph and all dress accordingly.
* Casual clothing looks great outdoors and in the studio results in less formal poses/photographs.

Tips for Babies and Children:

* Well rested and fed Babies and small children cope better with photo sessions and
food and snacks are best left until after the session misplaced food can spoil the shot
* We try to make the sessions fun and relaxed as children quickly pick up on stress. It’s good to have favourite toys on hand to help!
* It’s great to have parents on hand to help coax laughs and smiles out of children, particularly babies and toddlers who respond to a particular silly thing that you do.

Most importantly relax and enjoy yourself – and remember there are no real rules!
